It kinda bugs me that Ebbiroth from Schlock Mercenary is a lieutenant, where Schlock as been a Sergeant for years, even after rescuing his crew several times.

The only difference between a lieutenant and a private is that the LT thinks he's smarter than everyone else.

Regardless, mustangs aren't all that common in any service branch.
Schlock doesn't have nearly the restraint to be an officer. His "shoot first, eat the ashes later" policy leaves something to be desired.
